Traffic Jams

Posted on October 20, 2006. Filed under: Bahrain, My Monthly Rant, Personal |

This may well be the most contradictory thing i say after all my ranting about how to quell the jams all over the country:

‘I love to get stuck traffic jams.’

Let me explain…

Now i was sane when i first said that yes, i hate traffic jams, but i didn’t say i hated actaully getting stuck in one. Just like saying you don’t like killing people, but you like the idea of using a gun(on cans of course).

But given the right atmosphere, anyone would enjoy it. I even amde a list of things required to actually enjoy a jam:

1. The right car
This is one of the msot important factors, cos if you’re in a car you hate, say your dad’s 98 Nissan Sunny(which is actually my dad’s car), you will never enjoy getting stuck anywhere. But say you egt stuck in a tuned Nissan Skyline, rumbling away slowly and letting those wastegates dump loudly, then you would definitely enjoy the experience. you don’t even need a tuned car, a nice luxury car(anything luxury except a luxobarge) would do. A nice X-Type, a sleek CLS, it’s all good.

2. The right time
Never get stuck in the mornings or early afternoons, in factm stay out of the sun’s way altogether. If it’s bright, then you can see eveyrthing you don’t like about the jam. Stay in the dark, if you’re returning home from a midnight shift, fine as long as you’re not tired. Evenings and late nights are the best, as long as you’re not going anywhere specific, just cruising.

3. The right people
If you have an annoying sibling, a bothersome or loud friend, and you knwo there’s traffic, either ditch him, or be prepared to suffer. Anyone who is loud enough to annoy you regularly, will not be any help bitching about the traffic while you’re stuck in it. Always make sure you’re out with people you enjoy, not only for the jam, but seriously.

4. The right gear
If you know you’re going to get stuck, and anyway even if you’re not, remember to keep some gear in the car as a back-up, you know, just in case. A small portable TV if you ahve one, or Satellite TV in the car, and anything but a movie, it alwys spoils the mood, cos rarely does a jam last one and a half hours, and if you don’t finish it, you’ll be thinking about it all night and it’ll spoil you’re evening. Something light like some comedy, Mr. Bean(Yvonne reminded me), anything but a movie. Also food, never leave you car to starve(lol). Keep some stuff to eat like snacks, bar, drinking liquids etc. If they’re hungry, they’re restless.

I hope some of these tips helped you out as well. I certainly liked expressing them. One more thing before i end it, never, and i repeat never honk if you try this, believe me it spoils the modd totally…

Oh and for all of those people in the Kingdom, Seef district (highway or mall) and Hoora are the best areas to get stuck, avoid Sitra, Muharraq and Riffa like a plague… :)

Sane people admit maintaining sanity. But, you know crazy people say they’re not crazy too :P
